The United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia gives the Global Citizen Award on occasion to Philadelphians who “identify with being part of an emerging world community, are empathetic about the dignity of all human beings, and whose actions contribute to building this community’s values and practices.” In the past, UNA-GP has honored Craig Eisendrath for his work on nuclear arms and security, Trudy Rubin for her work on reporting on foreign policy, and Dean Afaf Meleis (University of Pennsylvania) for her work establishing global health as a track in nursing education. We consider John Smith’s leadership in the Global Philadelphia Association as a great example of such actions; especially his work – using the UNESCO global portfolio–towards establishing our city as a member of the Organization of World Heritage Cities.

This event is FREE, but donations in support of our work (and this event) are much appreciated.  $100?  $75?  $50? Or whatever you can give. Click the green “Donate” button at the top of the page, or use this link: UNA-GP donations.

Please fill out this RSVP to mark your attendance. Security at the Independence Blue Cross building requires pre-registration of attendees, and the presentation of personal identification. Donations on our website here are also much appreciated.
