The Philadelphia Global Initiative on the Rule of Law is an initiative for a series of seminars and events in the academic year 2012-2013 organized by Temple University Beasley school of Law, the International Law Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and the United Nations of Greater Philadelphia (UNA-GP).

Initiator and board member of the UNA-GP Enid Adler, Esq., who is in the leadership of the American NGO Coalition for the ICC (AMICC) and member of the Washington Group on Human Rights, has been promoting the idea of organizing an Conference to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Entry into force of the Rome statute and the 225th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution.

Following the ideas and recommendations of Enid Adler an ad hoc working group was formed with participation from Temple University Beasley School of Law, the International Law Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and volunteers of the UNA-GP.

After receiving advice from the academic community in Philadelphia as well as input from ICC Participants in The Hague the ad hoc working group made some adjustments in the initial plan. The ad hoc working group decided to organize a series of events that will take place over the academic year 2012-2013. The impetus for the effort is the ABA resolution promoting education about the ICC, and the fact that this year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Entry-into-Force of the Rome Statute, but also a desire to commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution in Philadelphia. Organizers see these two milestones as an opportunity to promote knowledge and understanding of the ICC as well as to reflect generally on the Globalization of the Rule of Law and what that portends for the future of humankind.

The focus of the series of seminars and events will be two pronged:
1) professional education and promotion of the ICC
2) bringing the global dialogue about international law, the ICC, and other international courts and bodies to the next generation.

The “kick-off” for a year-long series of seminars and events will take place on September 10th at the Free library in Philadelphia.
